Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- How the TSA will inspect your monkey – Well, better they have the procedures than that something no-doubt-tragic-and-headline-worthy would happen.
- The Cuccinelli Admiration Society: Kyle
- The Affordable Care Act – It will be interesting to see how the nomenclature goes. And, of course, if it turns out to be less than “affordable” in various dimensions, that will make for some mockery. But lacking anything better (and PPACA is, in fact, too long), I like it.
- The interim step on DADT: Steve Benen
- Calling out Senator Hothead – Nicely put, Mr. Gibbs.
- As Health Care Reform Passes, New Poll Shows the Shocking Radicalism of Today’s GOP – My mind boggles at these numbers. Over half of Republicans think Obama is a Muslim? Almost half think he wasn’t born in the US? A quarter think he may be the freaking ANTI-CHRIST? The fringe isn’t just driving the party these days, it damn well IS the party. Amazing.
- Hidden treasure found at mobster’s home – It’s like Al Capone’s Vault! Only, y’know, real!
- Pope Accepts Irish Bishop’s Resignation in Abuse Scandal – NYTimes.com – One bishop resigning is progress. The Catholics in Ireland need to see a lot more in the way of resignations and discipline over this.
- Vatican Declined to Defrock U.S. Priest Who Abused Boys – NYTimes.com – This sort of thing remains damningly awful against the Church — and against all the officials involved, including (ever-less-indirectly) the current Pope. People are absolutely right to be angry, and to demand accountability from those who allowed this to continue.
- Senators Unveil Yet Another Flawed National ID Card Plan – The data guy in me thinks a national ID card would be cool — but the practical and philosophical problems such a card would create (as touched on here) tells me why I need to keep a check on the data guy in me.
- What’s In Health Reform for You, Now? – But … but … where are the Death Panels! I was promised there would be Death Panels!
- 4-1 Prank – I may actually try this out next week …
- Lying your way to crazy – Money graf: “Once you arrive at that destination, you’ve metamorphosed from a liar into a fool. You’re no longer bearing false witness, you’re just stupid and crazy. It’s not a pleasant thing to behold.”
- Transition into adult health care is a rocky road for 20 somethings – Because they’re losing their parental insurance and it’s “cheaper” (maybe, for them, in the short term; not for the rest of society). But, of course, it’s also more likely to mean, in aggregate, poorer health due to lack of parental care. And this is, of course, just what the new HCR bill seeks to avoid.
- Apparently Galt’s Gulch Wasn’t Offering an Attractive 401K Plan – Yeah, finance reform needs to be higher on the list Real Soon Now.
- You Only Come by When You Need Something – A valuable observation that all the “nice” provisions of HCR that the GOP clainms to want to keep are, themselves, financially untenable without all the nasssssty stuff that they claim to want to repeal. “Senator Cornyn either knows this and is lying, or he is frighteningly ignorant.”
- Not your mother’s senior prom – The homophobic stupidity here is so awful it would take an overly-long blog post to dissect it properly. And I already did one of those today.
- Oklahoma GOP Lawmaker Says He Switched Obama Photo – NewsOn6.com – Tulsa, OK – News, Weather, Video and Sports – KOTV.com | – The level of childishness coming from the GOP continues to escalate. Disgusting.
