Unblogged Bits (Tue. 8-Jun-10 0200)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. Moment of Silence Not Good Enough for Exeter Union High School Christians – “These people are pathetic. They could easily have prayed before the ceremony. Or in their minds during the ceremony. But they don’t care about that. It’s not about their relationship with their god. It’s about the show. They don’t just want to pray. They want to pray out loud and they want to make sure everyone hears it.” Or, as Jesus put it, “And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.”
  2. One year later: Wave holds promise, needs killer client – There’s a lot of potentially coolness with Wave. Here’s hoping that someone comes up with a very cool application for it.
  3. Palin Gets It Wrong About Thomas; Has Nixon’s “Jew Counter” As Top Aide – Like anyone expects Palin to be consistent, rational, or fair?
  4. Rand Paul talks through, not to, the press – “Oh, I see. Confused right-wing activist Rand Paul is similar to MLK and Frederick Douglass, except Paul opposes the Civil Rights Act and the Fair Housing Act, because private segregation is preferable to government intervention.”
  5. Making enemies of friends – Well, we all know that ISLAM = EVIL, so any country that even smacks of Islam is, obviously, an enemy of Israel, the US, and God.
  6. Wonk Room » Anatomy Of A Smear: From The Federalist Society, To CBS, To Jeff Sessions – I keep finding it ironic that the Right is so anti-Kagan, given the number of the Left who are not particularly fond of her.
  7. More proof that if you are a big fat corporation you can do whatever you want and pretty much get away with it [Greg Laden’s Blog] – This sort of thing is the best kind off reason to hope that there is divine justice.
  8. BBC – Torchwood – Official Torchwood Children Of Earth site – Glad to hear it’s coming back, though less wowed by the alliance with Starz, or the use of more US/world settings. How do we know something’s really an underground complex when it doesn’t look like the basement of BBC Wales?
  9. Dr Demento ends his radio show – Story – Entertainment – 3 News – Sorry to hear this. The man had a huge influence over the world of weird, offbeat, novelty, and satirical music.
  10. Gary Rivlin: Portrait of a Subprime Lender: Allan Jones, Payday King – Another future candidate for the torches and pitchforks crowd.
  11. FreedomWorks CEO Goes To Bat For BP, Calls Oil Spill ‘A Natural Disaster’ – Um, since when is an oil well blowing out a “natural” disaster?
  12. Republican councilman behind push to whiten children’s faces on an Arizona mural is fired by local radio station. – Well, some good has come from some evil.

  1. I don’t know about the US settings. However, I think the alliance with Starz will be a good thing. Judging by the original programming they put out (Spartacus: Blood & Sand is amazing) I doubt they will do anything to change Captain Jack like making him straight or gay instead of both. We’ll see what happens.
