Unblogged Bits (Wed. 9-Jun-10 0200)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. Fine Wine – There’s a fair amount of truth here, as with any aesthetic judgment. Price is not a guarantor of quality, but (if known) will make people feel like it should be in fact be better. There are inexpensive wines that are quite good, and there are expensive wines that are not particularly distinguished — just as there are amateur artists who are quite good, and very expensive artists who are wildly overrated. So, look for what you like, and don’t place too much weight on what the “experts” proclaim as worthy. Ultimately, you should be drinking what you enjoy drinking, not what Robert Parker says is best (though it’s worth listening to what a Robert Parker has to say, for inspiration at least).
  2. The Whole Truth about the Confederacy « Texas Freedom Network – That the Texas state board of ed is determined, among other things, to play up the “Tea Party” aspects of the CSA, and downplay the whole “slavery” thing, is not surprising, but it is still reprehensible.
