Unblogged Bits (Tue. 3-Aug-10 0200)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. Live action Mulan coming soon? – Innnnteresting. Love the animated version, btw.
  2. Let Your Geek Gavel Fly – We need more Nerd Judges …
  3. Versus – Ah, the challenge of paradigm shifting during Game Day …
  4. Glenn Beck’s History “Professor” David Barton On Racism and the Three-Fifths Rule | Religion Dispatches – (1) The Founders spoke with one voice on very little. There were well-known Founders who were fully behind support and expansion of slavery, and others who were dead-set against it. (2) Beck has the scantest sliver of truth on his side — slaves were not valued “3/5 of a person” as a shocking devaluation of blacks vs. whites. They were considered that solely as a compromise between slaveholding states (which wanted them counted fully, even if they couldn’t, of course, vote) and anti-slavery forces who didn’t want them counted at all. The South eked out the 3/5 compromise, which still enabled them to maintain political domination of America for decades to follow .
  5. 10 Republican Lies About the Bush Tax Cuts – Can we just relink to this article every day for the next three months? It would save us all a lot of time.

  1. Well, hopefully a live action version means that the will get rid of the annoying dragon that completely ruined the animated version.

  2. The Eddie Murphy dragon was, in fact, my least favorite part of the movie, though as obligatory cute/sassy sidekicks in a Disney flick he was better than some.
