The UK has released its case for the danger posed by Iraq.

What I believe the assessed intelligence has established beyond doubt is that Saddam has continued to produce chemical and biological weapons, that he continues in his efforts to develop nuclear weapons, and that he has been able to extend the range of his ballistic missile programme. I also believe that, as stated in the document, Saddam will now do his utmost to try to conceal his weapons from UN inspectors.

My first question is, why is it the UK is always the one publishing this stuff, not the US?

My next question is, why are there still folks who think that weapons inspections are going to succeed without Saddam facing a strong, unequivocal threat if he obstructs them in any way? After all, it took just that sort of threat (roundly condemned by the “international community”) to get him to agree to talk about allowing inspectors back in in the first place.

My last question is, why are there people who still say, “Hey, Saddam doesn’t have nukes yet, so we don’t need to do anything”? Do they still question whether Iraq is trying to join the “Nuclear Club”? Do they really want Iraq to be a nuclear power? Do they really want to wait until that point to try to act?
