I'm hoping there is a clear reason why this patent is way more specific than it seems. But I'm not hoping very optimistically.

Apple Now Owns the Page Turn
Apple was granted a design patent this week for the page turn in an e-reader application. This is not from The Onion.

After someone spends a lot of money, and other folks who can't afford same waste a lot of cycles doing something different.
Apple might be ordered to pay for filing a frivolous patent. That would make me happy. Still, you're right. It would be better if they hadn't done this.
Can you get fined for filing a frivolous patent that's accepted? Because that would, in fact, be awesome.
I'm not sure. But here's the thing: if someone thinks that patent is all that stands in their way, they'll barrel through it. And when Apple sues, it's potentially an easy defense that will invalidate the patent and force Apple to pay attorney fees.
