Huh, missed this article back in September. A shame about the overall direction of Google away from RSS — not only is it still used a lot in the back end of various apps, but it was an excellent way to monitor sites without requiring their opting into a social media service (like, cough, Google Plus). Feedreader also provided (provides) a good feed-to-email update service, that I know some of my followers at http://wist.info make use of.
This, along with the dwindling of Reader, is an ongoing irk of mine towards Google.
