Apparently "8" was such a flop they've decided to go right to Windows 10. Yeesh.
Microsoft unveils Windows 10: ‘It wouldn’t be right to call it Windows 9’
New operating system comes three years after launch of the poorly received Windows 8 and skips 9 altogether
Yeah, cause the even numbered ones have been awesome.
Oh, wait… That's Star Trek movies. Never mind.
I think it's very promising to have your core operating software written by people who clearly can't count.
At least they're using the Arabic and not the Roman numeral. Am I the only one old enough to remember when Word jumped a few versions to compete with Word Perfect?
+Scott Croom Ah. Yeah, I remember that. (But, then, I've been supporting Word since its DOS days …)
They should really start naming based on year, but yeah, naming it 10 instead of 9, using a different system, or skipping a number entirely is just stupid.
I'm a big believer in Rev numbers, but MS is infamous for naming versions in whatever the hell fashion their marketing department suggests.
To their credit, they did quit numbering Word and Office and just use dates. That made it easier to explain why nothing at all worked or was compatible.
