A couple of bits o’ news for the Movable Type world.

MT 2.65 is now available, fixing a couple of security issues. I’m going to wait a few days before putting it on.

MT 3.0 was announced, available for beta testing 1Q04.

MT 3.0 will have a variety of features, some TBA. One major one that will engender much controversy is comment registration, as a response to comment spammers. I’m torn on this one, since I hate to see discussion stifled for the amount of time it takes for registration to take place — but, by the same token, it’s a somewhat effective counter to that sort of problem.

MT 3.0 is also going to incorporate CSS in its UI, which may mean the ability to point to a site spreadsheet in Preview mode to see what it will really look like.

Further releases of the basic MT are promised, focusing on “more personal features” and stimulated (and delayed) by work done on TypePad, but there are further hints about the long-promised MT Pro, which will be designed around “businesses, organizations, and large content-driven sites.”

  1. Hurrah! It’s about time. I thought we would never see another update, but this is good news indeed.

I am quiet interested in how the CSS integration works out. Hopefully it will make the new redesign that much more easier.
