Good Lord! I just found my old 1976 Tolkien calendar in a cupboard on a recent trip home. It was the Hildebrandt one.
Their art for Tolkien wasn’t exactly my taste, but they produced beautiful images. Sorry to hear this about Tim.
It didn’t match some of my own images — their Rivendell looked more like a Keebler hang-out, for one thing — but some of it was spot-on, and all of it was stunning.
I had at least 2-3 years of Tolkien calendars by them, and carefully saved all the pages of them (using them for wall art, once upon a time). A few years back, I purchased a book that focused on their Tolkien art, and was very happy I did.
I, too, had some of their Tolkien calendars, as well as the Star Wars poster. My main quibble with their art was that all the noses looked too large. A minor point, to be sure, and I now wish I had saved everything. Alas, it’s all gone. 🙁
