UPDATE: Added some photos from Margie, and reorganized the post to put all the photos at the bottom.
After an afternoon of Psi-clone/Amorpha running about (clearing older mishes at breakneck speed via Group Invis), Margie and I hooked up with the Alliance of Champions Meet-n-Beat (Second Session) for an evening of …
… well, a lot of standing around, actually. 🙂 Took a while for things to gel up, especially as we were waiting for occasional additional people to drop in. The time was not a waste, since we were able to do the “meet” part and get in some RP — sort of the Brian Bendis approach to comics adventuring (only not as realistic or witty, my own contributions included).
The group eventually split up in two, with P-Siren going off with one group to do an intense timed mish with various nasty demon-looking types (lots of explosions from Margie’s PC, and much laggy high-graphics action), and Velvet going off in another group to …
… well, stand around a while at the park (NE corner of Atlas Park), then stand around at the Atlas statue (lots of ugly costumes, a very few good ones), then, finally, a quick mission (see picture) in Talos (at which point, like every hero does, I was filled with It Must Be Mine Lust for the Sky Raiders’ jetpacks), at which point we returned and …
… sat around. And chatted.
Eventually, the other group returned, bloodied but unbowed, and then we stood around figuring out how to balance the levels in the group again, at which point I realized I needed to get up in 6 hours or so and bailed out for bed.
Not sure if I am on tap for tonight’s third run at the Caverns of Transcendence — depends on if they need another right-level (Honeygun). May be an interesting group, looking at the participant list.
The Meet-n-Beat (late slot) team: (L-R) Velvet Jones, Shock.Therapy, Dr. Meson, The Hushman (back), Black Mynx, Liberty Bill, P-Siren, Puck Bunny, Darkness Heals.
Velvet’s “Beat” team: Velvet Jones, Dr. Meson, Darkthrone, and Darkness Heals.
Some of P-Siren’s “Beat” team: (L-R) Shock Therapy, P-Siren (legs only), Black Mynx.
Back to the Meet part: (L-R) Darkthorne, Velvet Jones, Darkness Heals, Zepher-Storm
Yes…
The mission that we (Margie, Jackie, Lee, and I (Colorado Represent!)) were on was incredible. Watching a great tank in action was worth the price of admission. We were a bit under powered due to the mission being “Unyelding” and Some of us, even when SK’d not being able to hit the targets in question. I know that cheered everytime I saw the little orange “-1’s” roll of of my target.
Woot! a hit.
It is always great fun to watch Shock.Therapy in action. And was fun to see higher level missions, and how the story/plots progress at higher levels.
That and the “meet” part was fun. Some good role playing, and from what it looked like some really fun folks.
I would like to see more of these in the future.
Margie seemed to be having a lot of fun, even with the debt incurred.
My own sense was more mixed. The “beat” section was brief and, to be honest, disappointing. Being the lowbie in the group, I didn’t feel I could push for more (for some reason), and between waiting for Godot and the, um, frenetic pace of the actual mish, it was not very rewarding.
The “meet” part was okay, and I’m enjoying getting to know a bit more about folks. It’s still not an ideal medium for RP, by any means, unless you put a lot of time into it, and while some of the conversation was fun, it could also have been compressed into about a third of the time.
Or maybe it’s just my own RPing.
I’d like to do more of these, but with more there there.
You should post the Screenshots that Margie took of ours. The battles were most impressive.
Also the group photo at the end of the evening.
Not a bad idea. Margie’s going to shoot me a couple of them (I didn’t take any of the group pic).
And I’ve posted them and reorged the post around them.
In retrospect, the above may feel too negative about the Meet parts of the outing. Part of the problem is that, while Velvet is a sassy flirt and able to hold her own amongst folks she doesn’t know, I’m, uh, not. Which makes playing her at parties as forward and part of the action quite the challenge for me. 🙂
I do better at quipping during combat and in the mission downtimes than standing around and socializing. Sort of like, um, RL.

Um, yeah. In RL, you’re always cracking wise when battling super-villains.
Hey, does Dr. Meson look…familiar to anybody else?
With regard to the Cavern mission tonight, I just spent 45 minutes and almost 400,000 Influence upgrading all my DOs so everything is green. Hmm… That’s one less excuse I can use if things go “worng.”
Oh, hush. For “during combat and in the mission downtimes” read “in the course of work and everyday activities.”
Yes, Dr. Meson does look a bit familiar. The yellowish-green Rad effects add to that sense of familiarity. Can’t quite put my ring finger on it …
On the DO upgrades — cool. On the other hand, remember that some powers will be unavailable when you exemp down (though during the troll tunnel exit they will come in handy).
