Some frustrating evening …

Pulled out Hildy and Torchy (after some playing with a new Katherine toon and Margie trying to get a Mayhem Mission on CoV). We both had the Pumpkin Henge Croatoa mission, and wanted to take it on.
Everything was for us. We ratcheted to Heroic. We’d levelled since getting the mishes. We both had the one-shot Rune of Warding.
We lost both missions. Hildy couldn’t hold them enough with her fiery aura and taunt. I didn’t have enough AoE attacks and couldn’t take them down fast enough. The little buggers move like greased lightning. We tried both one-person patrols (each of us) and both sticking by the henge, and it still didn’t help all that much.
Rrg. Hate that mission. That puts me 1 for 5, and if I never take it again it will be too soon, unless I’m on a sizeable enough team and/or one with a couple of Controllers.
So we ran off and beat up on mooses.
The other part of the frustration was … well … the sort of echo chamber out there. Very few people on my Global list were showing up as on. Only a couple of tells on CC. So either a lot of folks are running ghidden and silent, or what should have been a Big Night demonstrated how thin on the ground our particular CoX circle has become.
Bleah.
But we did get to beat up on mooses, which was nice.

  1. Sorry…
Started downloading at 6 didn’t finish until 10, otherwise I’d have been on.

  2. Sorry, missed my show last night to do amazing headache. (Said problem can only be described in Yiddish or German. Compound expletives are so useful…)
I played Prince Valium early last afternoon, and woke up early this morning.
Happy to try something with you. My WS made that mission only by use of her Disorient aura as she played goalie at the Henge. (That makes me 1 for 2 with that alt. I hate that mission to death, but will try and help if you like. It is easier solo, but not unless you have many AoEs.)

  3. I’ve done it now once with Velvet/P-siren (couldn’t Taunt fast enough), once on a PUG with a team of 8 and Lynn (played goalie, had fun, won), and twice last night. Which, um, is 4 (I seemed to recall doing it another time).
It’s weird — CoX is not a “failure” game — you eventually (even after many deaths, or holding back and levelling) win most competitions. There are a few timed mishes, and when those don’t succeed, I usually feel irked, but resolute to continue onto the next mish.
For some reason, this one just chaps my hide. Maybe because I tend to have reticling/targetting problems in the first place, and the general Faerie gloom of the place makes it difficult to see those damned FB in the first place, especially when they’re running. But every time I lose at this, I find it really, really frustrating.
I can’t imagine doing this solo.

  4. I did get on a little last night to get the Task Force Commander accolade with Noelle (yay! New costume part! I am so going to make her an outfit of a toga, witch’s hat, and shoulder epauletes!), but got distracted by a fun new book. Tonight, though — there will be blood tonight!
And tomorrow, for the Shadow Shard TF #2.

  5. I would have loved to have been on more than I was, but Kaylee wasn’t having any of it. Hopefully tonight will be more… better.
    Things I plan on doing:
    – MAYbe beating on stuff a bit with Kethos (Virtue), but I’m not sure I’ll bother until I can respec him tomorrow.
    – POSSibly beating on stuff with Dolmen (Champion), but… ditto. Both he and kethos will benefit from both a slight rebuild and by being able to sell off all the stale enhancements to buy the next better levels (20’s and 30’s, respectively.)
    – PROBably playing some more with Pummelcite (Champion) — he’s got two missions left to close out all of the Croatoa content (the end of arc pay-off per contact is GREAT), and one night left on the Iron Broadsword, so it seems like a no-brainer.
    – DEFINITELY playing a new villainous toon I did up over on Virtue (another brute: what a coincidence).
    – POSSibly logging in Markov (Champion) to try out a mayhem mission (he REALLY needs (a) level 24 and (b) the respec.)
    – Maybe logging in Bear Claws (Freedom) to check out the new claws animations… maybe not, since I’ve seen ’em.

  6. Well, I’d have been happy to help. I did see you on a team of three, which then dropped to two, but after the polite brush-of I’d gotten earlier, decided not to pester you again.
I wound up soloing every time I logged in. There were never more than 6 people on my Gfriends list at any one time, and always half on another server, and the others usually on the opposite side from whatever I was playing.
Please feel free to ask me along if you can use help and have a slot for me. I’m getting tired of soloing.

  7. I don’t have a lot of power respecs in mind. I do want to shift Torchielle over to Fly, but that’s kind of trivial at this point.
Probably won’t be on (or will be on late) for the Shadow Shard TF — I have a meeting in the first part of the evening (right on top of the time slot), and it’s looking like a good chunk of Sunday afternoon will be also occupado. Hrm.
It wasn’t so much teaming (which I still don’t do as much of as I ought, to be sure), as side chatter and presence. I was just dismayed to see so few people on from my Gfriends list, and so few comments on CC or global chat. A couple of one/two-word blips with a couple of folks.
And, Avo, it wasn’t a brush-off — I really was just hopping on briefly to see a couple of I7y things before doing dinner.
And, along that line, the new CoV Invuln auras are … interesting. Basically a shadow version of the shiny CoH ones. I think they’re a conceptual improvement (Mister Ravenous never has struck me as a bright, shiny individual), but texturing of the “negative shiny” looks a little odd.
