Hover and Flight Speeds

Some love going out in I14 to folks who choose the Hovering Lifestyle …

Folks may or may not be happy to know that I [Castle] checked in some changes for I14 yesterday that increases the minimum speed of Hover and the Suppressed Speed of Flight. Previously, both values are ~5.5 [mph] on live. After the change, the values will be ~14 [mph], with Hover enhanceable up to around 22[mph] (about the speed of unslotted Sprint.)

And, more directly (including bumping Swift with Flight):

Currently:
Code:Hover 14.18
w 3 slots 21.78
w swift 16.13
w both*3 25.16

That’s not great, and it’s still an expensive build, but it makes it more feasible to have toons that “never” touch ground (I have a couple) by design.

  1. This will be great for those who use Hover as their KB and immob resistance.
That said, what I REALLY want is a radical reworking of Flight speed. It’s WAAAAAAY too slow. I’d be perfectly happy if it were somewhere close to double it’s current speed, but severely debuffed in instances and PvP.

  2. Can’t speak to PvP because I’ve given it up for Lent. Or for the teens of the Issues.
I’d love for Flight to be faster. Indeed, give the steady erosion of travel-grinding over the Issues, I have no problem with bumping up all the Travel Powers, esp. in conjunction with suppression.
I’d say that, of the various Travel Powers, I’d rank them in order of preference Flight, Super-Jump, Super-Speed, and Teleport. That’s purely a personal call, though, and I’ve done any number of the others based on character concept. Except TP — I refuse to build any more teleport characters.

  3. My one teleporter is VERY fast, but I have to run hover to make sure I don’t have excessive lag-death. Of course with the hover buff I may get more use out of hover in mishes now, too!

  4. Teleport is, theoretically the fastest power. I find it requires the most attention, however (followed by Superspeed, but that power’s just barrels of awesome). I like “point and forget” Flight most.

  5. Thats my favourite bit of flight too.
Many’s the time I’ve wandered off to get a cup of tea, to come back to one of my flying toon’s bumping it’s head against a war wall like a demented moth.
