No free respec with Issue 4 …

… but, if I read this correctly … a free respec for the First Anniversary of CoH (going into place tomorrow, though the anniversary is today).

In preparation for tomorrows Anniversary Respec being released on the live servers, we will be testing this feature today on the Test Server. We will be testing this feature in a few minutes. The Test Server will be brought down to enable this functionality.

NOTE: If you still have your free holiday respect, the anniversary respect WILL replace it. If you have respecs banked from running Task Forces or Trials, they will not be affected.

Thanks once again for a year of heroic testing!
Shiny!
This ought to seriously reduce a lot of the griping re “My power got nerfed with Issue 4!” once that goes into place (which looks to be fairly imminent). Especially if that means a respec using the new character design stuff, too. And for those who don’t think Ish 4 will “ruin” their character, it’s a nice gift (as well as the new Badge to be given to everyone who signs in during the month of May).

  1. !4 was supposed to be out the 27th…so I suspect it will be out May 1st now.
    But it will be cool.
I have no idea what a Respec is, but if its free, I want it.

  2. “Respec” = “Reassign powers and slots to your character, based on what you now can get and what you now know.” There was a free respec with I2, I think, and a free holiday one last December, and there are a couple (?) of missions (the famous Respec Trial) that will earn one for you a couple of times on the way up to 50.

  3. Logged in and saw the message that I have a free respec! No info on how to use it, so I watched Global Chat until somebody asked, and was told to type /respec.
Probably should have thought of that myself.
    Is “respec” short for “respecification”?

  4. One quick question on the Respec.
What happenes to the Enhancements? Do the get tossed, or do you still have them so that you can move them around to the new slots?

  5. All enhancements get placed in a holding tray and can be re-allocated at the end of the respec process.

  6. Ran a respec yesterday for Selene, after taking her out for a spin for the first time in a couple of months. Discovered why, too — she had problems (as a scrapper!) taking on three white Outcasts without being near the bottom of the barrel, Healthwise. Yow!
So, did some quick research (Selene was one of my first two characters, and so “planning” and “research” didn’t enter into her), chose a combo that looked good, and respecced her.
    What Respec does:

    • Lets you rebuild the character’s power selections, level by level.
    • Lets you change powers you took, within your selected Primary and Secondary (and any Pools you want).
    • Lets you reallocate the Enh you’ve already applied. If you had twelve Damage enhancements, you get to apply them to your new power collection (even if you need only five, or even if you need fifteen). (You’ll still be able to merge like Enh later, as well as buy stuff.)

    What Respec doesn’t do:

    • Doesn’t let you change your Primary or Secondary (or your AT or Origin, for that matter).
    • Doesn’t let you trade in your Enh for others. (Though you get to cash out (full price?) anything you don’t use.) You have to go to a store and do it manually.
    • Doesn’t let you change your costume. Rats. Still don’t have a tail for Selene …

To run a respect, type “/respec” in the chat window. Hey presto. You can even do it in the middle of a mish (though that makes the Enh balancing a bit more difficult.)
Post-Respec, Selene seems to be running better. We’ll see. She’s on definite two-strikes-already probation.
