Double your pleasure, double your fun?

So various bits of chit-chat about a Double XP period on Test today, Friday, along with double Influence and Prestige. Okay, big whoop.
But then there are rumors that there’s going to be a Double XP Event on Live — next weekend:

For all you City of Heroes and City of Villains players out there, NCSoft let us know that there will be a “Double XP Weekend” soon. From 11AM CST on Friday, July 21 until 9PM CST Sunday, July 23, everything you do in the game will get you twice the usual XP. According to NCSoft, the weekend “will give players the opportunity to level up their characters and gain access to many of the new features available in both City of Heroes and City of Villains”.

It’s been echoed at Warcry, but I’ve seen nothing official/red-name on the boards.
So — unfounded rumor? Well-laid plan? Distorted interpretation of today’s Test event? Time will tell.
(Lots of bitching about it being over San Diego Comic-Con weekend, interestingly.)
And, if true — hmmmm … wonder what toons I’d want to push that weekend. Go for existing high-levels, make another set of middies into higher levels, or try to push as many lowbies into travel powers as possible?

  1. Hmm. If I could, I’d be tryin to get my three almost 35’s up to 35… or maybe just focus on Markov… or Kethos…
    Hmm. I guess it’s good I’m going to TOTALLY MISS THE WHOLE WEEKEND, on a camping trip up in the mountains. 🙂 At least I won’t have any decision making issues.

  4. And I remain amused by the two major arguments being made about this:
    1. That it is rude — rude, I tell you! — to be scheduling this on San Diego Comic-Con weekend. As though everybody who is anybody will be going to the SDCC, and screw the rest of you.
    2. That this is some grand conspiracy to placate folks whose global channel stuff has gotten frelled.
    I suspect we will see more of these events (unless some huge technical glitch occurs) in the future.

    This infuriates me even more.
    I don’t even care about the double XP.
    I am part of a small SG and it is incredibly hard for us to get prestige to a level where we can do anything worth while in our base.
    This opportunity for Double Prestige will now be lost for us because we’re all going to be at the con all weekend.
    This is truly the first thing that has happened in this game that has really pissed me off but it has really…pissed…me…off.

    Someone cue the William Shatner “Get a life” quote. It’s as if people feel like CoX is stealing something from them because it was scheduled for SDCC weekend. Those rat bastards! They should have checked with me first!
    Or, as another person put it:

    The devs can give us free pony rides and candied apples via UPS on demand, but people would claim it’s doom because they’d rather ride go-karts and get caramel apples. Or they are allergic to horses and candied apples hurt their teeth. Or they heard that the candied apples are better in WoW and the horses have shinier hair in Guild Wars.
