Play time, old and new

Post-retreat, we eschewed any work around the house and instead hopped onto CoH. Spent a couple of hours with Torchy and Hildy, and T’Lauro came on as well, which made things entertaining as always.

After T’Lauro left, we started playing around with another set of prototype alts that we’re considering for duoing. I rolled up another Ice/Kin controller, and determined again that it’s a combo I want to play. Margie’s trying out different scrapper types (the scrapper/controller combo seeming to be a key piece of fun for us). She may re-roll Kazima (BS/Invuln), or do another BS toon. I’m rooting for Kazima because she’s a fun character, but I also want Margie to get to a chance to play
something other than a BS, which is what Kazima and Blue Point both are. Katana, maybe?

Did talk her into rolling up a Claws/Inv scrapper, and we ran around a bit. That combo seemed to work well, too.

No plan on abandoning H/T, just looking for a bit of variety. Not sure if we’ll do anything with them until after I8 comes live.

  1. Ice/Kin is a fun set. I got one to the mid teens some time ago.
I’m currently playing with Earth/Sonics. Soloing moves at an appropriately geological pace. On teams, it’s quite fun.

  2. I love Controllers, really. I don’t think they necessarily solo very well, esp. at lower levels (pets make a lot of difference, and we both know how Illusion Controllers can actually solo pretty nicely), but, then, I’m not sanguine about most classes other than Scrappers soloing well (at least on the CoH side).

  3. Earth seems to be the worst solo experience I’ve yet had. There are no attacks– just hold/immobilize with some small damage potential. I can burn through my endurance to kill more than 1 white or yellow mob.
On the other hand, those fights tend to be quite safe. I can lockdown a group and take minimal damage as I deal minimal damage in return.
I’ve found that a triform Warshade can solo well by the early 20’s.
I need to team more often. I’ve grown bored of soloing, but have had enough poor experiences with pickup groups to be hesitant to answer any calls for ‘want 2join 14ff mish’.

  4. As a team mate, I *hate* Earth Control. Nigh-impossible to see the enemy (held or un-) when wandering through a termite mound forest. But, yes, safe.
Anyway, if we’re on, give a holler. Sometimes we’re cliquish and anti-social, but usually we’ll pretend to be nice for a while. 🙂
