Camp Scherman – Girl Scout Orange Community Campout, February 1993

This is not so much about the menu, but the process of getting it all together.  This was prepared in a unit shelter with electricity, water, a stove and refrigerator, but no oven, barbecue or campfire!  We use real silverware.  There were three cooks.

Dinner at Helen’s is always a delight.  This was a “simple dinner” this year.  The grandson Alex made the donuts and sauces with the help of cousin James.  Of course we had Rafanelli Cabernet Sauvignon – 1914 a great year!

KOA June 27-30, 2014 Safari

As the sun slowly sinks below the horizon, the guides break out the cases and boxes – it is time for our sundowners. After a long day in the bush we relax with a cool gin and tonic or Pimm’s cup and review the day’s hunt. Sightings of water skiers and swimmers were not unusual. We also saw an occasional biker, hiker, reader and napper. We settle into our new campsite overlooking the Savannah. The drought has caused us, like the animals, to seek a new place to settle – Silverwood Lake. We have all the comforts: flush toilets, 24 hour hot showers, electricity, and a short drive to a boat launch for the HMS Barkley.  There are 56 hardy hunters (camera only!) on the trek.

KOA June 26-29, 2015 Mardi Gras

The Krewes are gathering and preparing for the centuries old celebration of Mardi Gras (a little late). Purple (justice), green (faith) and gold (power) will be the colors of the weekend!  Attire for Saturday night: Mardi Gras.  47 danced into the night at Silverwood Lake.
