Theme Thelection

So I’m trying out the “Amazing Grace” theme, made “famous” by Ginny. There’s quite a few customizations I plan to make, but that’s all going to take some time, so be merciful until I indicate I’m actually kinda-sorta done.

Things I plan to do:

  • Sort out the widgets between the two sidebar columns. Fix the Categories widget.
  • Add in my normal custom CSS.
  • Redo/rename my Pages (and remove from sidebar, since they show up at the top).
  • Narrow the left/right margins.
  • Play with the picture to rotate through some Flickr stuff, like Ginny has it.
  • Tweak the colors.
  • Fix the block quotes to have little quotation mark thingies.
  • Change the sidebar headers to somehow break things up a bit more.

All not necessarily in that order.

  1. Yep, tan finally. =P

and a nice layout…just needs some spaces or some other way to quickly visually see the borders between the side bar items. 🙂

  2. FYI, In Mac Firefox, all the sidebars are appearing at the bottom of the page, and it looks green. Ditto for Camino and Safari.

  3. I noticed that quoted text in your posts is hard to distinguish. The background color is almost the same as for regular text.

Also, can you add the option to preview a reply before posting it?

  4. 1. Changing the blockquoting is high on the list.

    2. I’ll have to look into that; it’s not out-of-the-box functionality. However … I think if you are Registered, you can edit your own comments.

  5. The post you made after asking about block quotes now is the same as before. The quoted material has a white background that is very hard to see against the extremely pale tan (which is almost off-white).

The alternating comments are, and have been light green.

  6. Put a thin outset border on it — hopefully that makes the blockquotes easier to read.

It’s interesting the degree to which monitors by different readers are affecting how the blog looks, in terms of color tone, contrast, etc. No particular complaints — it’s just that it really is largely in the eye (or the monitor) of the beholder.
