Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Fantasy and the Numinous – There are some good frames here for Fantasy vs Sci Fi. Something to ponder.
- Sotomayor & The Vulcan Standard, Pt. I – Long and rambling, but with some good points to make, IMO, about emotion, normalcy, and racism.
- NY transit and traffic status on Twitter – Remarkably clever. I’d love to see something like this done by all rapid transit districts.
- Pogo Stick Fail – Let’s hope there are some children eventually to pass this lesson down to …

- Bachmann blocks resolution declaring Hawaii to be Obama’s birthplace.: Ben Armbruster
- Meet the New Boss: Financial Bailout Edition : Dispatches from the Culture Wars – Another transparency disappointment from the Obama Administration.
- Canterbury reflects on General Convention – Which communique essentially says, “Jolly glad you still want to be in the Communion, but we can’t do anything about those gay folk until the Communion all agrees, which they clearly don’t, so can’t see how we can have open partnered gays doing priest and bishop stuff since they’re not actually married, even though we think prejudice against gays is ruddy awful.” Or something like that. A nice response guaranteed to make both sides ticked off.
- Limbaugh: Obama has a ‘chip on his shoulder’ because he’s ‘black.’ – And Limbaugh knows all about anger and chips on the shoulder.
- Inhofe: The birthers ‘have a point,’ ‘I don’t discourage it.’ – Another example of why this won’t go away, because the GOP pols are willing to offer their (weasel-worded) support of it.
- Lackawanna Mayor on Cheney’s call to deploy troops to his city: ‘I wouldn’t expect anything less’ of him.: Faiz Shakir
- Gibbs: Birther conspiracy theory is ‘made-up, fictional nonsense.’ – It’s not a matter of $15 for a web address. It keeps coming up because (a) the media keep covering it (“Controversy sells!”) and (b) the GOP keeps nudge-nudge supporting it.

- Gates 911 Call Released – Actually, late in the call she says (in being asked for a description) that one of the men looked perhaps “Hispanic” and that she couldn’t really tell with the other. But it’s not a “OMG A BLACK MAN IS BREAKING INTO THE HOUSE DOWN THE STREET!” kind of call at all.

- What My Marriage Counselor Asked | Mother Jones – Unfortunately, we can’t just walk away from the Climate Change Doubters. We still have to live with them, because they still have too many votes and too much money and too much political power. Waving our hands and saying, “Let’s just vote them out of office” doesn’t solve the problem. We have to convince — through debate and dialog — the people who are continuing to vote them into office that the science is real and conclusive, and that this trumps other concerns that might influence their vote.
