Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Superhero Catwoman or Pornstar Catwoman?* – Yeah, AH! includes much boobage in his art — but it is so damned beautifully executed that it overcomes much of my personal disapproval of overt fan-service (most of which is just grotesquely done, and thus isn’t nearly as defensible). In other words, just like the Pre-Raphaelites, I let him get away with it because it’s art. Plus, y’know … boobage.
- Court Deals Important Blow To Corporate Immunity: Ian M.
- P-38 formation – I’ve always loved P-38s.
- Outrage of the Week: Dear Abby! « FreeRangeKids – Child molestation is no laughing matter. Nor is teaching your kids to be terrified if they are out of your sight or hearing.
- The lock-in of Facebook takes away our freedom – Is Facebook the AOL of the 00s? I know I’ve been frustrated in trying to find ways to aggregate some FB material back to my blog, in addition to the material I push from my blog out to FB …
- GOP leaders voted for death panel bill in 2003 – They were for death panels before they were against them, I guess.
- At Netroots Nation, Blogger Challenges Bill Clinton On Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell – Well I’m glad he “regrets” it — now we just need to do something about it.
- 2009 Hugos – CBGXtra.com — Forums – A belated congratulations to the Foglios. And the Whedons. And Neil Gaima. And Elizabeth Bear. And, heck, the whole grup of winners.
- Rahm’s brother fights back on health care :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Lynn Sweet – Misrepresentation, selective quote editing, and character assassination? Why should anyone be surprised?
- Glenn Beck: I’m Not a Fear Monger – “It’s pretty pathetic when Bill O’Reilly starts sounding like the voice of reason.”
- Martyring Themselves on the First Amendment – While the distinction may be subtle to ideologues, there is a significant difference between facing jail time for praying, and facing jail time for criminal contempt when you violate a court order.
- Winston Churchill was a Bolshevik – NO! THATS NOT TRUE! THATS IMPOSSIBLE!
- The Rachel Maddow: Seniors Being Targeted With Fear Mongering Astroturf Ad Campaigns – We ran across one of these ads last evening during a Discovery Channel show Katherine was watching. We enjoyed (in a teeth-grinding way) shouting “Lie!” after each faux claim. Maddow’s money quote below, btw: “What’s being called a debate about health care policy right now is so far from an actual debate about health care policy that the charge from his critics that the president of the United States has to rebut in public is whether or not he wants health care reform because he secretly wants to kill all of the old people. And apparently he doesn’t.”
- Video games finally pay off: Air Force needs more virtual flyers than real pilots – That’s remarkable. But it also makes sense. Now I wonder when telepresence ground fighters will start making an appearance.
- How-To: Recycled wine bottle torch – An upgrade to the Wine Bottle Oil Candle idea, though, as Les Notes, it also resembles a Molotov Cocktail.
- 7 Reasons Why You Should See ‘District 9′ – Don’t know when or how, but this is high on my list of wanna-sees.
- Land Of The Free, Home Of The Naive – For some folks, “freedom” means “freedom from obligation and commitment.” I suspect the Founders would have heartily disagreed.
- Samsung ST1000 digital camera with GPS — NaviGadget – I’m seriously jonesing for GPS on our next camera. Makes labeling the pictures a lot easier. First, though, I need to get a camera for Katherine that includes date/timestamps.
- The Impersonal Funeral – I would be incensed beyond measure if this happened at the funeral of one of my loved ones. (I believe I’d be similarly incensed if it happened at my funeral, but that’s an unproven assumption.) And I’ve also encountered similar behavior (just as inappropriate) at a wedding.
