TV Theme Songs

I’ve a great fondness for TV theme songs. Positive associations with shows I like + repetition each week = fondness in my music book.

While I’m not so much into theme song covers, here‘s a duo doing a very nice job of doing 22 of them in 7 minutes.

  1. Definitely not the theme songs of my generation. Of the 60+ TV themes I have on my phone (that’s over a third of my music files), only one was represented here, and Mission: Impossible got really short shrift in this video.

I wonder how many themes on my phone also reside on ***Dave’s music player. It would be interesting to compare and contrast, no?

    1. Well, I don’t carry much music at all on my phone. But, then, most TV themes don’t make good ringtones, IMO.

My (our) iPod holds the contents of many, many TV theme song CDs, on the other hand. And, yes, aside from M:I, there’s not much 60s (or 70s) joy in the list. But some decent tunes nonetheless.

      1. I use my phone as an iPod, so it has a lot of music. I do use the old Spider-Man cartoon theme as my generic ringtone.

As far as TV themes from the 80s and 90s, I noticed that aside from the various Star Trek shows, all the ones on my “phonePod” are by Mike Post!

        1. Amazing amount of good theme songs by Post, that’s for sure — The Rockford Files, Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, Murder One, NYPD Blue, Hunter, Law & Order, The Greatest American Hero, The A-Team, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Blossom, CHiPs, The Commish, Doogie Howser, M.D., Hardcastle & McCormick, Hooperman, MacGyver, Magnum, P.I., NewsRadio, Profit, Quantum Leap, Remington Steele, Renegade, Riptide, Silk Stalkings, Stingray, Tenspeed and Brown Shoe, Wiseguy and the BBC series Roughnecks. (per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Post ). I have his “Thin Blue Line” album.

  2. An interesting mix of purpose-written themes and other folks songs used as themes, which is of course the way many shows open now. In fact some have no opening credits, they just superimpose them over the opening scenes of the show. With purpose-written theme songs make a reappearance? (or maybe reapp’hear’ance?)

Also, the Red Bull add at the end is very funny.
