Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Superheroes A-Z on a t-shirt – This is lovely. And, yes, there are a number of places where one could quibble the selection (Wolverine vs Wonder Woman, Superman vs Spider-Man, Human Torch vs Hulk), but it’s still awesome.
- DC Comics makes statement on female characters, creators – Well, at least they are paying lip service to acknowledging the problem. We’ll see what happens.
- There is nothing new under the sun – “It is foolishness and a public madness to fill the cupboards with clothing and allow men who are created in God’s image and likeness to stand naked and trembling with cold, so that they can hardly hold themselves upright. Yes, you say, he is cheating and he is only pretending to be weak and trembling. What! Do you not fear that lightning from Heaven will fall on you for this word? Indeed, forgive me, but I almost burst from anger.”
- The Future of Coal: The “Dead Island of Hashima” – Haunting. Though I’m also amazed by how little greenery has managed to push its way through in the pictures.
- Lawsuit over the World Trade Center cross causes outpouring of Christian love. – For some of these yahoos, another Norway murder spree sounds just a manifesto away. How they can say these things, and consider themselves for that reason a follower of Christ, beggars the imagination.
- How’s That Working Out for You? – “It’s hard to understand how this could have happened. It’s almost as if spouting an endless stream of GOP talking points and bending over backward to compromise in the face of a fundamentalist cult in pursuit of a shifting “centrist” voter makes people less likely to vote for Democrats and less receptive to Democratic ideas.”
- The Flags of the Confederacy – NYTimes.com – An interesting examination into the origins and design of the "Confederate Flag">
- Genetically modified tobacco plants to fight HIV? | Health Tech – CNET News
- 20GB in 1980 vs 32GB in 2011 – Those are the sorts of systems I started working with back in the day. Remarkable.
- Does Irradiation Make Food More Safe, or Less? – NYTimes.com – But … but … it’s SCARY!
- World Wide Words: Plonk – Margie asked, I looked it up, and here you go.
