The original LiS started off a thrilling adventure, a la the inspiration of The Swiss Family Robinson (there are some other interesting intellectual property twists in that, too, but that's another story). The first season, in black and white, had some great gadgets (jet packs, the Chariot), and was largely a tale ripping adventure story.
Alas, it quickly devolved into the Bad Monster of the Week, featuring the Comedy Hi-Jinx of Doctor Smith, the Robot, and Will. Ugh.
So this is promising: 'The new Lost In Space is described as an epic but grounded science fiction saga focusing on a young explorer family from earth lost in an alien universe and the challenges they face in staying together against seemingly insurmountable odds.'
The only problem I see will be pulling in enough elements (the sinister doctor, the robot, family) to make it worthwhile calling it "Lost in Space," without turning it into something stupid again. The movie version several years back gave that a good try, but fell over flat on its face (multiple times) when it came to the actual plot.

I loved all of those Irwin Allen TV shows–Lost in Space, Land of the Giants, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Swiss Family Robinson and Time Tunnel. I was really, really a fan of the original B&W Lost in Space, but I switched my allegiance to Star Trek after LiS went to color and started to get really silly.
Netflix might be able to pull it off.
As a kid, I loved this show. I was disappointed with the movie. Hopefully this will be a quality reboot.
