Saw the most bizarre Miss Cleo commercial this a.m. She was nattering on about how, over the centuries, people have been persecuted for holding “different beliefs.” She assured her viewers that she would continue “to teach as a shaman.”

This from the woman whose web page makes it clear that this is all “for entertainment purposes only.”

Now don’t get me wrong. I’ve enjoyed the Miss Cleo commercials over the past year or two. Tarot reading stuff aside, it sounds like she spends a lot of time just offering good advice. That guy with the criminal record who still hangs out with his old friends? Dump him. That job you want to take, but don’t have the guts to try? Do it. The Dr. Laura of the infomercial set.

But this most recent Don’t Let Them Persecute Me Off The Air bit is more than a little over the top. And, in the face of real religious persecution these days, more than a little tasteless.

This all might have something to do with the State of Missouri sued her company (Access Resource Services) for fraud. They won part of the case (interestingly enough, Colorado has a No Call list going into effect next year), but further hilarity (and bad puns) continue and continue and continue and continue.
