I don’t have anything better to say about them than to read them. Good stuff.
Which calls to mind some questions about The Nature of Blogs.
There are blogs that are personal journals of what’s going on in the writers’ lives. Call the writers diarists.
There are blogs that are commentary on current affairs. Call them essayists.
There are blogs that are little more than lists of links to items of interest. Call them journalists.
And there are blogs that are other things I’m not thinking of right now.
And there are blogs that are combinations of the above in varying proportions at various times. I tend to prefer this category (call them eclectics), since it provides a bit of variety to the day, but since that’s kind of what I do, that only makes sense.
On the other hand, there are some folks in the Link List o’ Horrors to the right that are, in fact, just one of the above. And, y’know, that’s fine, too. You know what to expect.
A friend of mine asked, “Should the Internet be free? Will it be?” As long as there are plenty of devoted amateurs here (even the ones who ask for voluntary contributions), a lot of it will be. And that’s kind of neat.
Ben Franklin would be blogging today. Of course, he’d probably be charging money, too. And getting it.
