Hi,
Hi, Averdata!
We have been monitoring the usage of your site in the previous weeks, and we found that the resource usage (ie. server cpu and memory) of your site is very high.
That seems kind of bizarre. I mean, 30 hits a day here at the highest-hit site (my blog). No web-based aps. No databases. PHP comments on my blog, but — well, what are the majority of comment counts here, I ask you? I mean, I know I’m writing a lot for NaNoWriMo, but that doesn’t seem that far beyond the pale.
We have came to the decision to terminate your account upon the completion of the current billing cycle of your account.
Whu –?
Although we provide unlimited bandwidth, we may terminate accounts that use very high level of server resources in the interest of all other users of the server as provided in the terms of service.
But … but …
The end of your current billing cycle would be 15 November 2001, which is about a week from now.
Uh, yes, that’s a week from now, but …
Please backup your files as they will be removed from the server.
Count on it.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused.
That’s very nice … but it might have been nice if you’d waved your hand a little bit and said, “Hey, you seem to be using a lot of resources, what’s up?” Or, “You are chewing up 5% of our server CPU, compared to 0.0001% for our average user. This may cause us to terminate your account.” Or even, “Dude, have you considered a business-class account? Because that’s what you’re acting like.”
Feel free to contact us if you need further assistance.
Funny you should ask, because I was wondering what the bloody hell had happened to performance on your systems today. Once again, my connections were badly, badly timing out to anything (including your home page) that I know is hosted by you, though connections to other sites seem fine.
This goes along with the problem on Monday. And a week or two before that. And …
And I know it wasn’t me causing the problem … because I couldn’t even get to my site. Got it?
So, like the guy kicked out of an apartment where the heat never worked anyway, I pack up my bags, stagger to the bottom of the steps, and look around for where to doss down for the night.
This is why I bought a domain name.
(Anyone out there who has a good, modestly-priced, reliable hosting company, I welcome your input.)
