Paramount Options Burroughs’ ‘John Carter of Mars’.
If done well, this could be a serious money-maker and a helluva lot of fun.

Oh dear. I’m going to cry…they’re going to ruin hundreds of childhood memories, aren’t they? *whimper*
Lord of the Rings has given me hope for movie adaptations of beloved books.
Yes, it could be crap. Or it could be great.
Spider-Man looks good, so I guess they could do John Carter’s hopping around. LOTS of CGI: tharks and calots and flying vehicles out the wazoo. Red people: Farscape has done such a great job with blue and gray that I can see it working. I’m cautiously optimistic.
I think with the advent of CGI on a mass scale — LotR is a good example of this, though the recent SW’s have been part of it, too — it’s eminently doable from an fx standpoint. Now all that’s needed is money and decent scripting. Oh, and acting, too, I suppose.
