Sacrifice

I sacrificed my passion. I sacrificed my pride. I sacrificed my basic needs. I sacrificed my friends. I protected my children. I can live with that. Take the Desert Test….

I sacrificed my passion.
I sacrificed my pride.
I sacrificed my basic needs.
I sacrificed my friends.
I protected my children.

I can live with that.

Take the Desert Test.

  1. If they had replaced the monkey with a pygmy shrew, I would have kept it longer. I don’t like monkeys. The lion represented my children more than any monkey.

Who brings sheep into the desert with them, anyway?

  2. I think it might say as much about me that any sentimentality was ignorded for practicality.

The sheep went first. Not enough water and it moved the slowest. Then the monkey because I don’t like monkeys and it wasn’t doing me any good. The lion I had kept for a while because it might have protected me, but frankly, it was next. Then the horse, because if we were that bad off, I couldn’t ride. I kept the cow because I was raised on stories of how I could drink their blood if needed.

It’s not too far off from what I would have done if I’d known what the creatures represented. I think it’s not for my particular side of the culture, though.

  3. First the horse. Impractical without plenty of water, which is one big reason why horses were so prized in Arabia — it was a proof you were rich because you could afford to keep on.

Then the lion. Cool idea, but not terribly practical.

Then the cow. Too slow moving, too much needed to keep it fed and watered.

Then the sheep. If I had to resettle somewhere, sheep would provide wool. Though, I suppose, we were in a dessert. Still …

Last, the monkey. “Because you always wanted a monkey!”

  4. Yeah, wool. You can use it to make a tent.
Goats are a better bet in the dessert. And you can still make a tent.
    But I hate sheep.
That might say an awful lot about why I consider myself a hermit.

My passion was the first to go…
Horses are notorious for needing LOTS of water. And I figured I could eat it. har.

Next went my pride. Well. Lions are too unpredictable. And why tempt one with the sheep and cow, anyway?

Then children. Why they weren’t first, only the monkey knows.

Then sheep. So I guess I value what friends I have.

‘Cause I went right down to Maslow’s ‘basic needs’

    Sounds just like me.
