I very much like James’ comments. My husband and I have four cats and a dog – talk about an adventure! But we’re hoping to add another biped (as James calls his child) to our own menagerie. Meanwhile, I have a friend who so desperately does not want kids that I doubt I’ll ever ask her to babysit.
Cats and kids – they are both fun in their own ways, but James just makes parenthood sound pretty cool.
Speaking solely for myself, it certainly is. It’s different from the childless life — certainly there are things you lose, but the gains (to my mind) far outweigh them.
Though there are times when I’d love to just run out to a movie on a weeknight, or sleep in with my wife, or do other, spur of the moment things that having a toddler don’t allow.
But hearing her shout “hot tea!” when the teakettle whistles is worth a lot, too.
