A number of conservative activists are stepping up public criticism of Dubya for not being conservative enough.
Among his sins:
“On some fundamental questions, a sense of disappointment is spreading,” said Gary L. Bauer, who is president of a group called American Values and ran against Bush in the Republican primaries. “This is a great way of discouraging grass-roots activists, who are the heart of the party.”
Another prominent conservative activist, Paul Weyrich, said: “Conservatives in a broad cross section of the movement are getting very uneasy about this presidency.”
(What’s vaguely ironic about this is that I’m not sure I disagree with these particular criticisms — though there’s plenty else that I’d say Bush has been far too conservative/right-wing on.)
