Time for this week’s This or That:

1. Cats or dogs?

For our lifestyle, cats make a lot more sense. We barely have time to watch after Kitten and give her the attention she deserves, let alone what a pack animal like a dog needs.

If Katherine is “surrogate toddler” for Jackie and Doyce, Jake and Dizzy are “surrogate dogs” for us.

2. Lions or tigers?

Or bears, oh my!

Tigers. They’re purty. (And I’m crushed I don’t get to play one in Doyce’s Living Jungle campaign.)

3. Cows or pigs?

Well I like to eat both of them (though bacon has to be my favorite). Katherine makes both cute “Moo” and “Oink” sounds. I’d probably say cows are more attractive, though.

4. Turtles or frogs?

We used to collect toads (as tadpoles) from Lake Log and bring them home and set them free (once toads) into the garden to eat bugs. Lots of fun. Never got the appeal of turtles, except for the teenage mutant ninja type.

5. Elephants or giraffes?

Well, Katherine would vote for “elly-ellies” in a heartbeat, but I remain awed by giraffes for being such big and yet delicate creatures.

6. Butterflies or birds?

Butterflies are neat. But birds, ranging from hummingbirds to little finches to croaking grackles to trickster ravens to soaring raptors … yeah, they get my vote.

7. Deer or moose?

My sister was bit by a moose once. No, really. Moose bites can be very dangerous …

… but seriously, moose are incredibly powerful, majestic creatures that scare the snot out of me. I’ll take deer, thanks.

8. Goldfish or swordfish?

I am not a sea food person. On the other hand, fish-in-a-tank are just barely understandable to me as a decorative item. I’d have to go with swordfish.

9. Bunny rabbits or ferrets?

Ferrets have always seemed like a fun pet to me. I’ve seen bunny rabbits as pets, and they are basically lumps. Bleah.

10. Horses or unicorns?

I’m afraid I’m disqualified from associating with the latter, so …

  1. I can personally tell you that ferrets are a lot of fun. They are always in the mood to play and always ornery. I have two, Bandit and April. I finally finished the cage I’ve been building for them. They went from an apartment to a mansion. 😉

  2. Most of the folks I know who have ferrets like them. Many of the folks I know who do not have ferrets don’t. I suppose that makes sense (though correlation doesn’t necessarily mean causation).
