So the LA Times this morning has an interesting article on how the San Diego Comic-Con is evolving into a great place for Hollywood to drum up fan support, get feedback on fan concerns, and try to quash Internet rumors about movies and TV productions.

Yea, verily, the Hollywood sorts are actually putting a lot of time and effort into making presentations at the Con, and generally according the attendees a certain degree of respect for their influence.

Alas, the Times has significantly less respect, since a key photo for the story — and the lead photo on the web page — is a rather sad-looking fanboy geek, gut bulging in his home-made Superman outfit, and looking generally pathetic. “Look at me! I read comic books!”

  1. It’s like that film “Trekkies”. It was a fairly interesting look at the whole phenomena, but of course they had to pick the biggest Trek-freaks to interview. Like the woman who went to court to prove she had the right to wear her Trek uniform to work.

  2. The woman with the big freaking sunglasses that covered half her face? Freak.

The guy that doctors photos to make it look like Klingon porn? Freak.

The guy that makes sabers that look similar to lightsabres? Well, that’s actually kinda neat.

At least the LA times didn’t show some pathetic fan-boy with his gut hanging out of a Sailor Scout outfit. (Were there any babes in chainmail bikinis, Dave?)

Anyone see those TNT (or some other cable channel) commercials where there are two marketing hacks in a boardroom and one of them looks at a picture of Lursa or Be’tor with her Klingon Kleavage Window ™ and asks the other if he’d “y’know”?

  3. Didn’t see much chainmail bikini-wear this year. Most of the women in costume were more Galadriel-inspired, or else in sort of generic bustier-fishnet stuff. Though there was a great Baroness working at the Hasbro booth. I hope to have pics anon.

Most of the portly gentlement discovered that Jedi robes hide a multitude of sins.
