The trip home was relatively uneventful. Lots of folks crowding the terminal in LAX, even at 5:30ish a.m. And on the Denver end, long, long lines to the Concourse A security, and to the main security as well. Odd.

The flight itself was uneventful, too. Kitten, having been awakened Way Too Early, stayed awake the whole trip, and nearly all the way home.

Sometime over the last week, though, one of our sprinkler zones turned on — and wouldn’t turn off. Result? Big swampy mess in its area of control, lots of dry yard in all other areas.

It also doesn’t look like the utility folks came out and mapped where the utilities come through the yard. Hrm.

And our main phone line is awfully staticky, which may be because of the drenching in that zone, or may be some other reason.

Stay tuned.

  1. er. The utility guys were supposed to come and map, and there is no eveidence of that, but damage to both your sprinkler and your buried phone line.

Are you thinking what I’m thinking, Pinkie?

  2. I’m not quite sure what the utility people could have done to cause damage of that sort. Nor the lawn aeration people.

I think the sprinker zone valve was flaky — made either moreso or less so by the sprinkler people who were here working on it just before we left — and the prolonged watering has somehow caused phone problems.

Since I have to manually water tonight (water rationing night or not), I’ll triple-check on the utility markings.

  3. Well, our phone isn’t working at all now — rather, we aren’t getting a dial tone (which was true when we got home, though I managed to “fix” it by actually calling the phone). No more static … but I’m getting KEZW AM 1430 loud and annoyingly clear through the phone (which is nothing new, save that the dial tone usually covers it up).

    *sigh*

  4. I can verify that the sprinkler didn’t run the whole time. Jackie was there night before last and it was definately off then.

It was running about nine last night when I was checking the gate in the back yard, but I figured it was just… you know, running, like it’s supposed to, and that I’d just blundered into it by mistake.

  5. Well, we’ll see what sort of response we get from the sprinkler people. Or Qwest.

It does look like the utility folks came and marked the gas line — which I already knew was nowhere near the fence-to-be. No indicator of any other utility coming through the easement.
