The Organization Man I

Over the weekend, Margie and I both did some reorganizing of our various RPG character sheets, notes, etc.

For about six months I’ve had an accordion file that I was putting all of these into — much better than trying to keeping everything on a single clipboard, or tucked into rules books, or loose. This weekend I’ve cleaned it out a bit further, put in tabs to ID the different characters, and gone along from there.

(Margie, on the other hand, went for a set of very nice vinyl “Peachie” folder, three-ring punched, in bright colors — green for Living Jungle, blue for the Crane clan in Oriental Aventures, etc. — with one character to each. Most of our friends, on the other hand, seem to go the 3-ring binder approach, with everything in page protectors, which seems like too much work, and besides which, I like to doodle on my character sheet.)

So I thought, “Hey, I should blog about my various characters.” So, in no particular order …

  • Dag Winru [D20 Star Wars, Doyce’s campaign]: Human Fringer (2)/Scout (1)/Force Adept (1), though he just leveled so I have to figure out what to raise him in; I promised Doyce I wouldn’t add a 4th class. Raise on a backwater ranch/estate on Gyndine (known more for its shipyards than its ranches), Dag’s dad exerted some political pull to get him a job in the Senate Guard. That segued through a bunch of unpleasant experiences (some of which have been retconned away) into his working for Bayle Antilles, the Prince of Alderaan (the latter being the name of Doyce’s campaign), where, alongside various other agents and allies of Bayle (who either does or doesn’t look like Jaime Smits, depending on Doyce’s mood), he Does Stuff for the Prince. Who is, of course, a Good Guy, right? Brash, a bit impetuous, a bit naive still (though trying to seem gruffer and more worldly than he is), and with the requisite heart of gold, he still manages to get involved smack-dab in the middle of fight, and actually is pretty darned effective in them. Since Rey changed characters, Dag is also the top pilot in the group (which is kind of scary). Everybody makes fun of him because he’s been nice and protective to Nayda, the aide/intern to the Senator who was found all drugged up as part of a major plot development. That she slept with him has not reduced the mocking.
  • Burton Richards [D20 Pulp Adventures]: Hunted Martial Artist (1). After his twin brother Roy was seduced by an exotic temptress in Chinatown, and dropped out of sight in Hong King, Burt followed, only to get caught up in the intrigues of the evil Shao Chi cult. He joined the Shao Chi to discover the fate of his brother, and learned some of their secret fighting techniques, but was eventually discovered and forced to flee. Wandering the US two steps away from Shao Chi assassins, he has become an occasional agent for the mysterious “S.”

  • K’hrwhk’hr [D20 Living Jungle]: Katanga (Ostrich) Kwaku (2). Vain, inquisitive, mean, and a generally obnoxious enough that his herd of fellow ostrich spirits didn’t want him, K’hrwhk’hr wanders the jungle, annoying people there.

  • Della Vordich [D20 Living Force]: Human Scout (2). A short, roly-poly woman, friendly, chatty, fiercely protective of her soldier husband (Woody Cregg, played by Margie), and determined that they’ll make their way together through a bright, shiny, endlessly interesting universe.

  • Shishko [D20 Oriental Adventures/Rokugan, Doyce’s campaign]: Hengeyoki (Cat) Rogue (ECL 5). Shishiko, despite her protestations of being very “spiritual,” seems much more interested in fish, mice, warm spots in the sun, and the occasional picked pocket. Brutally, if naively, honest and callow, her friendly and often ill-timed utterances usually earn her a thwap on the head with Mushi’s (Margie’s) fan, a la Gilligan and the Skipper. Caught up in Menho-sama’s quest, she’s a great scout, and an even greater Honor-drain on the group.

I don’t know if there are any great, insights there into me, but there you have it.

As I’ve begun posting gaming stuff, I’ve considered segregating those posts into a separate gaming blog (as some folks do). I don’t know that I do it enough to warrant something separate, but it’s still an idea mulling around in the back of my head.
