Nobody’s talking about it at the office. No knots of folks reminiscing or discussing or debating. Business as usual, if maybe slightly hushed.
Are they embarrassed to emote?
Are they afraid that everything about 9/11 has become politicized, and it might offend?
Are they just tired of it, and want it all to go away?
It _could_ be media fatigue. God knows, the media is trying it’s best.
It could also be that all of the reactions are just too close to the skin, still. Are very many of us are still pushing down the hysteria, and that emotion is not one we share.
Business as usual will keep them safely ‘there,’ until we all go home to our spouses, our children, our cats, or our dogs – whatever it is that keeps us going one more day…
I am somewhere between numb and teary, here in my hermitage away from the maddening crowd.
I’m glad I have quite a bit of work today….something to keep my mind from contemplating the cowardice that had taken place. I noticed that listening to the radio and reliving my morning of one year ago made me very angry, very sad, and wanting revenge for the people who died.

For me, it’s all about controlling my emotional state. I feel worse and worse discussing it with other people. I’m doing my best to pretend today is just like any other day [failing miserably, of course]. I wholeheartedly agree that emotions/reactions are just still too raw.
I was surprised to arrive at work and hear “Talk of the Nation” on the radio. I had been listening to NPR’s day of coverage on the way in, but I didn’t expect my boss to be listening to it (although I had introduced him to NPR). Aside from an increase in the number of American flags on vehicles, though, I saw no sign that anybody was treating the day differently. Everywhere I went, I saw smiling, happy faces. Creeped me out a bit.
