It’s this week’s Monday Mission.
1. What’s the most expensive meal you’ve ever eaten? What was the occasion? Was it worth it?
The most expensive meal I ever signed for was about $1200 — a post-move/Y2K blow-out at the Fort for my department (and their SOs), order whatever you want to eat or drink, etc.
It was cheap at twice the price, given department morale at the time, but I did include a copy of the authorizing e-mail when I submitted the expense report, just in case. We usually capitalize expenses like that.
A meal my department had down in Orlando (cannot remember for the life of me the name of the steak house, dammit) was almost as expensive. And worth every penny, by damn.
Personal, just Margie and I? There have been a few very nice dinners we’ve gone to, and a couple where I splurged for the Silver Oak cab. Given the food, drink, and especially the company, it was priceless, whatever it cost.
2. What do you like to do when nobody is looking?
Blog. Duh.
3. What’s your special purpose?
Damn. I was hoping you’d gotten a copy of that memo. I seem to have misplaced mine …
4. Do you like Autumn? If so, why? If not, tell me about your favorite season.
Absolutely. The weather becomes tolerable, temp-wise, the turning of the leaves is gorgeous, and it means that the holidays are just around the corner. Oh, and Margie’s birthday, too, which is always a lot of fun to buy for.
5. Ever recommended a movie to someone only to have them hate it? Which movie? Did you feel uncomfortable about that?
Can’t think of a case, esp. since I’m usually one of the last folks on my block to see any given release. (I do sometimes recommend some DVDs for when my folks are over; usually it works out well, occasionally I push the envelope a bit, though they’re usually polite about it.)
TV shows though? Inevitably, especially if I’ll be sitting there watching it with them, the episode that comes up on the tube is one I’ve seen before, the least suitable for a first-time viewer, and usually the worst episode of the series ever lensed.
6. I’ve had hay fever all day! Sniffles, sneezing, I tell ya, it’s awful! Do you have any allergies? Anything that just gets you down for the count?
I have general pollin-style allergies. That and the dry air here in Colorado have me snorting Beconase regularly.
As far as food allergies, I get headaches from MSG. And then there’s my famous allergy to raw tomatoes. They make me go, “Ewwwww.”
7. Do you like mixed drinks? What is your favorite? As long as we’re here how about you order me something too? Just “suprise me!”
Absolutely. When out, I usually order a very dry martini with a twist. Margaritas and mojitos are also very popular (hey, Thanksgiving is coming …). Most rum drinks are fine with me, as far as that goes. I’ve discovered that Long Island Ice Teas, long a favorite, have become too sweet for my taste. Vodka (or rum) and fruit juice (grapefruit or cranberry, preferably) are also acceptable.
BONUS: Why do we scream at each other?
I think the TV’s on too loud.
