I’ve added a link to AltaVista’s BabelFish “one click” page translator on my Individual Post Archives. So when folks from strange foreign lands find my pages via their search engines, they can easily translate them. (Of course, Google offers that facility, too, but … still, it’s kind of cool).
As the Internet becomes less English-centric (less than half of all Internet users today use English as their primary language), features such as this will, I suspect, become de rigueur for web pages.
I’d be curious if any of my foreign readers out there find it of interest.

Have you ever tried running your page through Babelfish into another language and then bringing it back into English from that translation?
Heeeeee. Hours and hours of fun.
I am such a fan of the euphemism that if any poor soul runs my scribblings through Babelfish I can only predict even more bafflement. Some of my ENGLISH-speaking readers have queried me for a translation of terms such as marital duties and dangly bits.
One reader even asked me why I sometimes refer to the male of the species as tripods.
Bwahahahahahahahahaha. Really, I shouldn’t be let anywheres near a keyboard.
I assume it’s a literary reference, of course, alluding to the Martian War Machines in H.G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds. They were, of course, tripodal, and a reflection of man’s martial, aggressive nature (not to mention that the classical symbol for the male is that of Mars).
Right? I mean, what else could it be?
Rather clever of you, I think. Though I’m not surprised that, with the low forms of japery that qualify as humor and wit these days, that many people don’t “get it.”
