So yesterday I got a message from one of my regular readers that, in upgrading to .6 of Chimera (a Mozilla browser for OS X), the page layout had gone all wonky here, with all the content mooshing into the left-hand column.
I think I replicated the solution that Doyce came up with when on of his pages went through something similar. So I throw it out there to you folks:
1. Have you seen this problem?
2. If you were seeing it, has it gone away?
Yes, strangely, I was just “testing” mozilla for the first time the other day and indeed, your content was all smashed up against the left, only as wide as the ‘gray’ left column usually is.
Whatever you’ve done seems to have solved it. 🙂
I was seeing it on my home machine (Mozilla for OSX), but since I’m not home right now I can’t say if it’s been fixed.
I’ll check this afternoon.
. . . but I will point out two other things:
1. mozilla doesn’t seem to render your comment blocks on my PC Win2000. The page comes in with the left column intact and no comments. Main pages are fine… comments no-go.
2. mozilla doesn’t use your font choices. I’m getting everything in serif font, where in IE, it is all sans-serif.
🙁
What Arref said. Though I think it’s because of something in the Sitemeter code, or something near it. I see this after the site meter button:
a+=’lto:’ b+=’@’ e=” f=’David C. Hill’ b+=’hill-kleerup.org’ g=’
Is that something about a mailto spam-proof javascript, perhaps?
1) Yep. Seen it. 2) Yep. Fixed.
Ditto on all the comment view stuff, as well.
Huh. The problem seems to be in the Sitemeter script/code. So if I stick it at the bottom, Mozilla has no claim to gripe.
I have no idea if this is a Mozilla bug, not rendering something that (as far as I know) renders properly in IE and Netscape (and earlier Mozilla versions, it seems), or a script bug that the others improperly accept and Mozilla deals with correctly, if annoyingly.
Since the effect is on CSS display, I’m wondering if it’s Mozilla. That would also explain the font problems, Arref. Maybe.
And, yeah, Julia, that’s a spam-resistant mailto script. But as far as I know, that’s working okay. Check back in another upgrade.
Well, if it’s fixed, I’m not going to worry about it too much. At least not today …
Well, comments are all working fine now. Wheee!
Last note (he’s gonna hate me…), but the pictures of you with your yellow hat aren’t centered in Mozilla. Probably another frelling table issue.
Hrm. Are any of the bits under the Yellow Hat Project centered?
mmm. yes, the stuff under is centered. the yellow hat pics are not.
Hrm. Well, they will just have to stay at a rakish offset, then, until either they break in IE or stop being broken in Mozilla. Harumph.
On the other hand, I’m now seeing some other weird behavior — the left sidebar not always loading up, for example. Very weird.
