Why, anti-abortion laws, of course.
At a time when the Democrats have been floundering about for an issue to drum up support, the GOP seems to be willing to hand them a huge one.
The fact is, the majority of Americans think that abortions should be rare but legal. It’s a subject that they don’t like to think about much, and one that they feel ambivalent about — they think abortion is of questionable morality, but they also feel it’s a personal decision, and don’t like the government dictating to them about a personal situation that they or someone they love might suddenly find themselves in. That indicates a social climate that could cause a major backfire for the GOP if they push too hard, too fast on this.
Well, you know. This is what the Pat Robertson crowd has been waiting for for the past 20 years. All three branches of government in there hands. Now if Robertson, Falwell, and Orel Roberts can pull themselves away from the Government trough long enough to get there troops in marching order…well who knows what they will do.
Six months of a complete ban on abortions, which is what they admit to wanting these days (and rightly so by their lights: if a fetus is a person then there are no legal grounds for killing an innocent to save another innocent, so far as I know), would solve this once and for all. A few dozen photogenic women dying in agony from ectopic pregnancies gone to their inevitable natural conclusion, 12 year olds dying in childbirth, and all covered closely by the press and not hidden away like in the old days…. Hope it doesn’t come to that.
Well there is that. But most likely it would be like things were say 100+ years ago. Though with the plethora of c-sections nowadays it probably would not come to that. Just that every woman would get the joy of being a brood mare.
