Just in time for the resumption of the last few episodes of Farscape tonight comes the news that UPN is giving Firefly a pass.
According to the Firefly Immediate Assistance page, “According to a 20th Century Fox source, UPN has decided not to pick up Firefly. While the show appealed to them, they didn’t feel it was a good fit with their current programming needs.”
More news, they say, later today.

I’ll post a trackback to something I wrote yesterday that foreshadowed this.
UPN may not be around next year, period.
Well, I’ve certainly heard that UPN is in trouble — Enterprise is not doing as well as they’d hoped, and unfortunately Joss can’t support the whole network with just one show on it …
Enterprise not doing well? Gosh, that’s hard to believe. Just this week, they had a very original script where an Enterprise crewmember and a hostile alien were stranded on a moon and had to learn to work together! Never seen that before! :-p
Only the second season and they’re already out of fresh ideas? I hate to say it, but I think it’s time for the franchise to be retired.
