DaredevilHrm. Scott is right — this advance footage of Jennifer Garner as Elektra in the new Daredevil flick is, well, wildly underwhelming. Roughly on a par (plus and minus) with SMG on Buffy, but with more bad wire work (and with no good excuse, given the scheduling for movie shoots vs weekly TV).

I still think the DD suit for the movie looks good, but even his moves are looking pretty lame. Daredevil (and Elektra) should both be in the Jet Li/Jackie Chan/Bruce Lee class of physicality and action. That’s their characters, and what they do (radar vision aside for DD). Take that away, and you’ve got — well, a real disaster on your hands, name stars or not.

(And, frankly, I don’t even see what little acting goes on in the clip as anything to write home about.)

Look at the IMDB plot summary: A man blinded by radioactive waste which also enhanced his remaining senses fights crime as an acrobatic martial arts superhero. I’m not talking geeky comic fan-boy complaints about whether Garner looks Greek or if Affleck has red hair or what race the Kingpin is. DD is an action comic, story, character. If you can’t do convincing fight moves or acrobatics, you shouldn’t be doing this film.

  1. I am SO depresssed about this movie. DD was one of my favorite comics. I was excited when I heard it was going to be a movie. However, it’s just been downhill. I think Ben Affleck is a TERRIBLE choice for any project. IMHO he can’t act his way out of a paper bag. Plus, you add the super-lame Bullseye character, and then the assumed lack of real action. Sadly, this will be another wait until Netflix movie.

  2. I’ve enjoyed Affleck in some roles. And having thought ahead of time that Michael Keaton would be a horrible Batman, I’ve learned to reserve my judgment until I see the finished product.

Having now seen a snipped of the nearly-finished product, my reserve is fading.

  3. I, too, had high hopes for this film. Miller’s first run on the book was nothing short of spectacular, even if he was really just doing Batman in red tights and horns.

My beef about Garner stems from the fact that I just don’t see in her what so many other folks do. She’s not attractive, can’t act, and, as that trailer shows, not that good at the physical stuff. Jessica Alba, on the other hand, really learned how to fight for Dark Angel.

The only upside is that Alba may be playing Fathom in James Cameron’s movie of that comic.
