Hmmm. Wonder if I need to create a Weather category for the blog?

The most common thing you’ll hear from people, whether it’s newscritters or folk-on-the-street: “Boy, this snow is a pain in the neck [or words to that effect], but boy, do we need it!”

Just to put it in perspective, this particular snowstorm has moved the snowpack in the South Platte Basin, whence Denver gets most of its water, from 79% to 104% normal. Just this one storm.

Cool.

On the other hand, I don’t know how much weight our deck can take — about 3-feet plus across the entire thing. Hrm.

Point of reference. 15″ of snow is equal to 1″ of rain.

United’s announced that 80-90% of flights tomorrow morning will be cancelled. One runway will be opened as of midnight tonight. Priority will be to hub connections — about 70 UAL planes are stuck on the ground here, and they need to be gotten back into service. Another runway will be opened by about Noon.

The problem is not just the runways being plowed, but that the snow has set up over the lights and the radio systems along the runways.

  1. Egads! No milk for your coffee!?!?

Funny thing about that, here in New England(RI at least) whenever there is forecast for 1″ of snow, the first items that go in the grocery store are milk & bread
