“Nothing is more important in the face of a war than cutting taxes,” the House majority leader, Tom DeLay, blithely told CongressDaily.
Uh … yeah. Right. And tin foil helmets. Lots of tin foil helmets. They ward off the Evil Saddam Mind Control Rays.
Yeesh.

Just as important as taking that accordion along when hunting, or Frenchies into a battle.
Another stupid Congress trick is tying the administration’s hand with respect to rebuilding Iraq:
“None of the funds made available in the bill for reconstruction efforts in Iraq may be used to procure goods or services from any entity that includes information on a response to a Request for Proposal (RFP) that indicates that such entity is organized under the laws of France, Germany, the Russian Federation, or Syria,” the amendment [to the war appropriation] said.
Now I am just as mad at these countries as the next guy but we need to not get in the position of appearing to be profiteering. Now I don’t think the future government of Iraq will love these countries all that much, either. But let them make the decisions.
Yeah, that’s kind of stupid.
