Perhaps folks might be willing to cut John Ashcroft a little slack on his homeland security claims, if crap like this didn’t keep happening.

Granted, this is DHS, not DoJ. Still, until the homeland security effort as a whole can show itself as both benign and competent, folks are going to remain suspicious. And rightfully so.
