We had the old DVD player humming last night, and immensely enjoyed watching Christopher Lee, as the older, well-feared, and power-seeking master of his craft, “S,” imprison his colleague and rival within his massive, picturesque stone tower, beneath the surface of which we saw the diabolically mighty industrial works he had hidden away. There Lee (attended by a skulking, twisted servitor), after showing off his staff and the trap that he’d laid, at first tries to get the hero to side with him, then, rebuffed, fights him in a violent duel of skill and power — though, of course, our hero, even though disarmed, eventually gets away.

Aside from that, of course, it was a pretty crappy movie.

  1. Christopher Lee was the first celebrity I ever met! It was at Equicon ’76. I was 15, and was thrilled to shake hands with “the man with the golden gun.” Now, I prefer to think of him as Saruman, or even Count Dooku. Or, of course, Dracula.

Say, did you like the part where the henchman fell into the vat that had been kept at absolute zero?

  2. I thought if anyone would appreciate this post, it would be you, Scott. 🙂

What I loved was that the henchman falling into the vat of super-cooled helium (which was open to the air) managed to create a chain reaction that destroyed the whole plant.

    Worst. Bond. Ever.

  3. THe only thing that I liked from this movie was the the corkscrew car jump. and there were some other good moments.

But in the Rodger Moore bond movie’s I think that this one is still better then View to a kill, Octopussy, and Moonraker.

  4. I heartily disagree. Though I may feel differently after I wade through those. Even Moonraker, at its goofiest (and do not doubt I find it goofy) can’t match Golden Gun (I’ll match Jaws against Nick Nack any time).

  5. MwtGG also has the Worst Ever Bond Girl Who’s Supposed To Be A Highly Trained Agent, the shapely-if-blithering Miss Goodnight (Margie was muttering at her last night, “Oh, come on, even you’re not that blond …”).
