Unisys’ patent for the GIF format (or, rather, the underlying LZW compression technology that is part of it) expired back in late June. Huzzah!
However, I still use PNGs, just on GPs. And they tend to be smaller. And there aren’t any pronunciation problems with “PNG.”
Okay, I’m wrong on the last point — PNG is supposed to be pronounced “ping,” not spelled out. My bad.
