Back last October, our church had a massively successful (and entertaining) “Harvest Auction,” a silent auction of this and that to raise money for our parish.

One of the things that went was $115 for “five meals for four,” prepped in advance by Margie. The winner finally arranged for delivery of same, so Margie is busy today (with my clumsy assistance) cooking and packaging five meals for four people — entree, starch, veggie, salad, dessert.

Keep Margie in your thoughts this evening. I’ll be on up-in-the-morning Kitten Watch again tomorrow — the least I can do — and I expect it will be a late night for her.

UPDATE (9:30p): The woman is a gourmet-cooking machine. She’s pretty much done with everything except for some last-minute prep for the stuff for dinner tomorrow night (when we deliver the other meals for the rest of the week). Amazing, but it shouldn’t be surprising. Margie rocks.
They are going to be very well fed, I can assure you.

UPDATE: The menu:

Meal 1: Roast Mahogany Chicken; Mixed Roast Root Vegetables with Garlic; Sage Grilled Zucchinis; Summer Berry Pie.

Meal 2: Individual Gourmet Pizzas; Caesar Salad; Angel Food Cake with Red Wine Peach Sauce.

Meal 3: Whiskey Glazed Spareribs; Parmesan Mashed Potatoes; Country Cole Slaw with Buttermilk Dressing; Sour Cream Pound Cake.

Meal 4: Classic Cheese-Stuffed Meatloaf with Italian Tomato Sauce; Au Gratin Potatoes; Pesto Spinich; Spiced Apple Cake.

Meal 5: Roast Pork Chops with Raisin Apricot Sauce; German Red Cabbage with Red Wine, Apples and Onion; Macaroni Monterey with Cheesy Sour Cream Sauce; Rum Rasin Cake with Brown Sugar Rum Glaze.

Yum!

  1. I almost wept when I read those menus. There are four people in Denver who (to use a favourite phrase of my father’s) have horseshoes coming out their butts (last word edited for family content).

And, of course, you and Kitten. You guys get to live full time with that kind of cooking. My envy knows no bounds.

Time is the one thing that feels in short supply for us all. For you both to give your time and skills to help out something you believe in, well, that’s an amazing gift.

  2. Well, we don’t eat like that every night.

Some nights I take Margie out for dinner.

No, but seriously, Margie is a treasure in ways far beyond her wonderful cooking. But that’s a nice (so to speak) icing on the cake.
