FRIDAY
Margie was off at D&D, and returned home well-sated with slayage — even though it sounds like she’s run out of magic arrows, and is running pretty low on mundane ones.
SATURDAY
Nobilis at our house, which worked out nice and comfy. In the sort of stuff that warms the cockles of any GM’s heart, I was just a few moments late of of averting a couple of Bad Things Happening. Ah, well.
SUNDAY
Wrapped up the second Spycraft serial. Doyce managed to break the scenario, a bit, by his Dylan (a) being outside when the another set of opposition attacked, and (b) starting up the car and engaging in an automotive firefight with them — one-sided, as they were armed with AK-47s and plenty of action dice, and he was armed with two perpetually-jamming pistols.
Still, his being active gave the rest of the team, having completed their half of the mission, an extraction route. Randy’s Gina got to flirt with a dark, mysterious stranger, Stan’s Lola got to shoot some Russian thugs, Jackie’s Lou got to use a grenade launcher and a flame-thrower, and Margie’s Calvin got to lay his head in Lou’s lap. A good time was, evidently, had by all.
Why, yes, that was a rather full weekend, wasn’t it?
Re: Saturday
Definitely one of those “I didn’t plan it that way, but I liked the way it turned out” things.
Oh, it was perfect. I was just figuring things out a moment too late, divining locations seconds too late, and Neo-flying across the Chancel (complete with whizzies) too late. Very dramatic. 🙂
Yeppers…
We were all a little behind the curve on the pick up of what was going on. I would like to think that it was because of good GM’ing, and not on our lack of foresight.
And Spycraft was very fun. It was nice to see why Dave was trying to keep Doyce from going out the window earlier. A very good Serial all in all. The game really does do a good job of creating the feel of the genre. I found it funny that the Gozi/Calvin/Lou team worked so well together. A very unlikely grouping.
Nobilis: I think we would have been even further behind, had not (a) John done the Forgery detection on the contract, and (b) we been used to false accusations of treason against an/our Imperator …
But, yeah — the revelation of the plot vs. timing of it being advanced was letter perfect. Kudos to Doyce.
Spycraft: Well, in reality, the building was lit up, and there were guards out on the grounds. (Of course, the “nobody every looks up at the building” trope from countless action flicks could have been invoked).
There were also (shortly) other infiltrators — which might have been more unfortunate if Dylan had met them without a couple of tons of vehicle wrapped around him.
I have to confess that I was surprised when Dylan didn’t hunker down and plan a rescue, vs. attacking the heavily armed bad’uns with the car. But that’s what keeps me on my toes.
I also have to confess that I find it ironic that it was not our Wheelman who first got involved in a driving gun battle.
And thanks.
*grin*
I’m not sure if jamming three guns in a row counts as a running gun battle.
But the ending was very entertaining. Dylan Getting a shot off at the closest baddy, and then running him over (thud, thud).
Still driving…taking aim…and Jam…Tosses gun aside and grabs other gun.
Takes aim again and…Jam…tosses second gun aside.
Pulls up in front of the window we are escaping out of…Throwing off all of the baddies leading the car.
Gina sliding a shotgun over the roof of the car…Dylan making an amazing catch on the other side of the car. Aim’s the shotgun and…Jam.
Very cinematic. Very cool.
Though I do think that the Mod’s writers should have planned for a “success” in the module as opposed to several versions of failure.
People were shooting guns. He was running …
And, yes, the module (Black Tie Formal) was a bit of a Kobayashi Maru — you get nailed (fail to get particular awards) in several directions depending on your final resolution; there’s really no way to get all the possible awards.
That being said, there are definitely better solutions than others (most of which involve expeditiousness so that the final scene is bypassed, but your final was actually pretty much second-best).
I guess that makes Dylan Capt. Kirk…
Well, with a Wife…
Maybe…
I’m sure that he picked up something nice for her in Greenland…
“look Honey, blubber, it the neat to eat treat.”
I’m so glad that Stan has jumped on the Greenland-joke bandwagon.
Re: Nobilis Timing. Yes, that is in fact vaguely what I’d intended, regarding the unfolding of events, though I will say that it was cut quite a bit… closer to the nape than I’d expected.
There WAS a possibility to notice the ‘big clump of alien wood’ above the waterline when someone (Mariska?) did an earlier divination, but no one looked into it very far at that point.
