For the last two nights, Katherine has come to visit us. Night before last, it was around 2:30a. She wanted assistance in going potty. A while later, she came back, and had a conversation with Margie. This morning, it was around 4:30a, and she wanted us to know that she had gone potty all by herself, and, by the way, would Mommy walk her back to her room?

I ended up doing that (a fair exchange, since Margie had held most of the conversation with her). It’s rather disheartening crawling into bed at 4:40a when you know the alarm is going to ring in twenty minutes.

She was still awake when I got up for my shower, but she was snoozing when I left the house. No idea how long she stayed down.

My worry is that her sleep cycles are changing, and evolving away from the pretty regular 11-12 hours she’s held for the last year or so. Down at 7, up at 7, that’s been our girl.

Or maybe it’s just the novelty of waking up and going potty in the bathroom that’s appealing to her, and she needs to learn to do it like Mommy and Daddy — with lots of staggering and muttering and collapsing into bed again when it’s all over.

We’ll see.

  1. When we finally got Young Miss Laura to go to the bathroom herself, the first night went something like this…

10:30 PM: Bang! Door to her room flies open…

Flash! The hall lights go on!

    Trod…trod…trod…

“I have to go to the bathroom! I need my privacy!”

Flick! The bathroom light goes on.

    Slam! The bathroom door closes….

And the whole thing reversed itself a few minutes later.

We tried to explain to her that if she really wanted her privacy, she could have just let us sleep and she would have had all the privacy she needed!
