Clone Wars

Huh.

I mean, fun enough. The animation is what I’d expect from a Genndy Tartakovsky production — sort of Samurai Jack-like. And as the first ep, you’d expect a certain amount of establishing time. But it also seemed clear that, damn, it’s hard to tell much of a story in five minutes. How much of a story will 100 minutes (in 5 minute increments) make?

Presumably, since it’s an official LucasFilm production, we won’t see anything that overlaps or contradicts the third movie coming out. There will be ten episodes in November, and the second ten next Spring.

I don’t know I’ll make a concerted effort to catch every ep (the next one is Monday night). Presumably they’ll all eventually be collected and issued on DVD. But, for all that, it was a heck of a lot better than watching 700 Club or Howard Stern.

  1. Well, as long as they announce the date of the next episode at the end of each one, it’s easy enough to set the ol’ VCR.

The characters are so funny-lookin’ that I may have trouble taking them seriously (Did you see Anakin’s jaw?). Also, whoever does Yoda’s voice can’t seem to decide if it’s the serious Yoda of RotJ, or the silly Yoda Luke first met. (John Lithgow kept the silly voice all through the NPR adaptation of TESB. Blech.)

  2. Hey, Anakin always seems to have a clenched-with-angsty-tension-and-teenaged-moodiness jaw. Emphasizing it seems only proper.

And regardless of Yoda’s voice, he was acting like the same dithering buffoon from the 2nd movie.

  3. It was fun to see (even though we can see why there are only two Jedi left by “A New Hope”).

As a side note not related to “Star Wars”:

After hearing about another of Margie’s Remarkable abilities Saturday. I was rather pleased with myself that I was able to sort of guess two of the voices on Roughnecks as “The girlfriend from Pee-wee’s Big adventure” and the “David Casidy wanna-be from Boy Meets World”.

    “Dizzy and Jenkins”

    I’ve got mad skillz…

  4. “Yes, throwing Jedi headlong into major combat operations worked so well once, we’re going to turn it into a major part of our military strategy.”

Part of Palpatine’s strategy, at least. What a bunch of maroons.
